Luke Shaw said that on the eve of the 2022 World Cup he learned about the death of his grandmother.
My grandmother, unfortunately, passed away [before the start of the 2022 World Cup]. She battled cancer for a long time and sadly passed away shortly before the first game. But of course Gareth [Southgate] was kind to me, he talked to me and asked if I was okay. But I`m on our site, this World Cup means a lot to me and I didn`t want to miss anything.
My grandmother was a very close person to me. As a child, I spent a lot of time with her. Unfortunately, she had cancer for a long time, it was very difficult for her. But I had time to grieve and then fully focus on the World Cup - said the Manchester United and England midfielder in an interview with The Athletic.
The England team advanced to the play-offs from first place in the group. In the 1/8 finals, the team will play against the Netherlands.
